What Is a Facelift?
A facelift, or rhytidectomy, removes major wrinkles and sagging skin by tightening the facial and neck muscles as well as eliminating excess skin and fat. During our youth, our faces are round and smooth because of evenly distributed fatty tissues. However, age, sun exposure, and genetics all take their toll. Over time, your skin droops, and the folds around your chin, jaw line, and neck become prominent.
One of the main reasons men and women consider a facelift is a desire to regain a more youthful appearance. Not only does a facelift improve your facial features, but it also can have a dramatic effect on the neck, enhancing its contour and profile. A facelift can often take five to 10 years off your appearance.
A facelift is not a simple procedure, which is why the staff at Parkcrest Plastic Surgery encourages you to think carefully about the results you want and how much surgery you are willing to undergo. We welcome you to schedule some time with us so we can identify your individual needs and desires.
During your consultation, we will evaluate your medical history to determine your overall health. We will discuss how your face can look and what you can expect from surgery. You will also get the chance to see our St. Louis facelift before and after pictures. Our objective is to create a natural appearance that is pleasing to you.
What Is a Facelift Procedure?
A facelift is sometimes performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery, forehead lift, chin augmentation, fat grafting, or liposuction to create an overall rejuvenation of the face. The operation may take up to five hours or more, depending on whether any other procedures are done at the same time. Facelifts are typically performed in outpatient surgical centers and general anesthesia is most commonly used.
Your facelift surgeon will start the incisions inside the hairline at the temple, extend around the earlobe and behind the ear, ending at the scalp area. Excess skin is removed, and sagging muscles and connective tissues are tightened. In some cases, fatty deposits are removed from beneath the chin and neck. Incisions are closed with small sutures.
The board-certified physicians at Parkcrest Plastic Surgery understand how important it is to our patients to work with someone they can trust and who cares about them as individuals. We strive to deliver efficient, professional treatment with a friendly demeanor so you will be comfortable throughout your facelift process.

What Does Facelift Recovery Entail?
For men and women who undergo a facelift, common side effects are soreness, swelling, and bruising that can last up to a month. Scars will fade over the course of a year, but they will never completely disappear. Most facelift patients will start seeing some results about a week or two after surgery, with full results visible in about six to 12 months.
At Parkcrest Plastic Surgery, we give you detailed pre- and post-op instructions during your consultation and after surgery. Our comprehensive information will include how to prepare for a facelift and possible risks and complications from the surgery.
Our staff would be pleased to provide you with pertinent information, such as typical facelift costs and financing options. Please schedule an evaluation with us today to discover what a facelift can do for you.
