If you’re looking for a younger appearance, schedule an appointment with Parkcrest Plastic Surgery for a consultation.
What Is Botox®?
Botox® is an injectable used for cosmetic purposes. It is short for botulinum toxin, a neurotoxic protein the bacterium clostridium botulinum produces.
Two main types are produced commercially: botulinum toxin type A and botulinum toxin type B. Used in small quantities, type A botulinum toxin injectables work to temporarily paralyze the muscles of the face by preventing the signals of the nerve cells from reaching the muscles. When the muscles of the face are paralyzed, it gives a younger, youthful appearance by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles that form as a natural part of aging.
The Benefits of Botox®
As we age, our skin loosens. By paralyzing the muscles, they stiffen and make the skin smoother, reducing the signs of aging. Botox® may be the right choice for you if you want to:
- Decrease the production of underarm sweat
- Eliminate or prevent wrinkles on the face
- Temporarily smooth facial wrinkles and fine lines
- Achieve a more youthful, softer appearance
- Get a self-esteem boost
Our plastic surgeons at Parkcrest Plastic Surgery give thousands of Botox® injections every year. Call our office today, and schedule an appointment for a younger appearance.
Where Can Botox® Be Applied?
Botox® is mostly applied to the face. Applied properly, the toxin works wonders for problems that can include:
- Gummy smile
- Marionette lines
- Bunny lines
- Platysmal bands
- Frown lines
- Chin dimples
- Forehead lines
- Crow’s feet
- Lip lines
- Eyebrow wrinkles

What Happens During a Botox® Injection?
When you arrive at Parkcrest Plastic Surgery, you are shown to a comfortable, private room. The area of treatment is cleaned. A local anesthetic is used for some patients, although many don’t find it necessary. A very tiny needle is used to inject the Botox® into the muscles of your face. The procedure usually lasts just a few moments.
The number of injections that are administered depends on the number and severity of wrinkles and fine lines. In most cases, the effects of the treatment last for four to six months. After this period, patients usually come back for additional treatments.
